In 2021, the global AR/VR headset shipments will reach 11.23 million units, a year-on-year increase of 92.1%. Among them, the VR headset shipments reached 10.95 million units, breaking an important turning point in the industry with an annual shipment of 10 million units. IDC expects it to reach 15.73 million units in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 43.6%.

2021 is the year when the AR/VR head-mounted display market exploded again after 2016. Compared with five years ago, in terms of hardware equipment, technical level, content ecology, and creation environment, compared with five years ago, there has been a big increase. The increase in the range will make the industry ecology healthier and the industry foundation more solid.

At present, virtual reality is still in the early stage in China. The number of VR applications is growing rapidly, with a large room for growth and a wide range of application scenarios. Taking VR games as the entry point, it has gradually expanded to social, live broadcast, film and television, consumer and other C-side applications.

With the rise of the metaverse concept, the VR industry is booming, and many companies are stepping up their deployment of VR. In addition to ByteDance and Huawei, many global technology giants such as Apple, Google, Samsung, Xiaomi, Facebook, etc. have already deployed on the VR track. In 2022, new VR/AR devices from tech giants such as Sony and Apple will also be launched one after another.

With the iteration of various VR products, industry shipments are expected to increase by 80% year-on-year to 20 million units in 2022, of which META, Sony, and Pico are expected to reach 15 million/100/1 million units respectively. In the medium term of 3-4 years, considering that VR equipment will still be dominated by strong immersive application scenarios such as games, live broadcasts, videos, and in-vehicles (estimated to account for nearly 90%), refer to the shipments of game consoles and other equipment, and the scale of equipment. It is expected to see 50 million units+/year.
